Established in 1972 as a family business, Sealake has grown to become one of the largest refiners of edible oil in South Africa. Its achievements can be put down to the vision and entrepreneurial spirit of the founding members of the company which is carried forward today by the current generation of management and staff lead by CEO Mr. Baboo Essack.

After its humble beginnings in Sea Cow Lake in Durban the company strategically relocated its operations to Pietermaritzburg in 1982. It’s manufacturing, packing and logistic divisions now utilize only the state of the art technology to ensure that Sealake delivers the best quality product and service to the customer.

Not long after Sealake was established it opened up its candle department. Shortly thereafter, the soap manufacturing division was created. Both divisions have gone from strength to strength.

As a result of Sealake’s commitment to high quality and service delivery, its brands such as SUNSEED, COTONA, GOLDEN LITE, SAFA OIL, GREENBRITE LAUNDRY SOAP, COUNTESS AND WIN BEAUTY SOAP AND SUNBRITE CANDLES have become leading brands on supermarket shelves across the country. Sealake now manufactures house brands Pick n Pay, Spar and Shoprite which are leading supermarket chain stores in South Africa.

With Mr. Baboo Essack at the helm, Sealake is looking into the future to become bigger and better which makes expansion and export opportunities crucial to ignite this vision.
